Presenter: Dr. Jennifer Sklarew, Assistant Professor of Energy and Sustainability, GMU Department of Environmental Science and Policy
Abstract: The discussion will focus on unique, universal lessons for local to international cooperation on innovation and energy system resilience, derived from Dr. Jennifer Sklarew’s recently released book, Building Resilient Energy Systems: Lessons from Japan. Dr. Sklarew will highlight how diverse stakeholders’ resilience priorities influence responses to energy system shocks, shaping energy policies and energy system resilience. The session will examine how insights from Japan’s energy system resilience trajectory can apply to communities and nations around the globe, including implications for energy transitions in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion also will place energy system resilience and innovation in the broader context of the food-energy-water-climate nexus.
